You say I can’t fill holes with things,
I say you’d better watch me try.
You say the Gimmies are a sin,
I think that’s a tired lie.
Filling holes with other things
May be wrong, it’s true.
But everyone wants what they can’t have.
Yes, my dear, even you.
So before you think to scold me,
Tell me my sin will damn me.
Better to think why I do these things:
What hole am I filling?
What hole indeed, might you be filling,
For this is not a finite thing.
Everyone must fall sometimes,
To the desire of other things.
